Earlier this year, GTRI partnered with Wombat Security Technologies, to provide our clients with cyber security awareness training that helps employees avoid phishing scams and other security risks. We believe that Wombat’s knowledge assessments, simulated attacks, and interactive training modules make them a valuable asset in the battle against insider threats. It seems that Gartner agrees, having just named Wombat a leader in its 2016 Magic Quadrant for Security Awareness Computer-Based Training for the third consecutive year. In a crowded field of more than 20 competitors, this is an outstanding accomplishment for a relative newcomer.

As I’ve written about before, insider threats are a very real risk that affects more than 50 percent of organizations. While some stories grab all the headlines – like the NSA contractor who is suspected of stealing 50TB of data over the course of 20 years – many insider threats are not due to malicious intent but simply to employee negligence. Both types of threats must be guarded against, but organizations may underestimate these “accidental” threats and not take adequate measures to educate employees.

Along with training employees how to avoid opening the door to malicious attacks, Wombat employs a cycle of assessment, education, reinforcement and measurement that consistently results in a 90 percent reduction in successful phishing attacks and malware infections.

On November 9 at 1 p.m. EST, GTRI CTO, Scott Hogg, will join Wombat’s Senior Channel Manager, Mike Nobers, for an online security review and trend analysis webinar. I hope you can join us for this informative session.
