Denver, Colo. – February 22, 2010 – In partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver (HFHMD), a group of prominent IT companies are donating funds and providing employee manhours to build a highly energy-efficient, green townhome community in Denver for low-income families.  The IT-sponsored townhomes include a 4-unit building within the 24-townhome development.

Full home sponsors for the IT build are each investing $85,000 and hundreds of volunteers to help build the townhomes, and include: Cisco Systems and its Partners: Comstor, EMC2, Forsythe and GTRI, and Comcast, in honor of recently retired West Division President Brad Dusto.  CSG Systems and ITEC are bricks and mortar sponsors, who are each investing between $20,000 – $30,000 and volunteer support.

This is our tenth consecutive year supporting Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, but what is especially meaningful this year is that we were able to become a full home sponsor with the generous support of our leading partners.  Just as we leverage our partners to provide world class technology solutions, we felt this was the best way to collectively give back to our community”, said Todd Roth, Director for Cisco Systems.

The Bails Townhome Community is the largest green venture to date by Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver.  The 24-unit townhome project will incorporate a variety of green building materials and will further reduce its carbon footprint as HFHMD’s first Transit-Oriented Development (located within ½ mile of the Colorado light rail station).

HFHMD has been building green for over a decade, and incorporates technologies such as tankless water heaters, programmable thermostats and energy-efficient appliances into homes so that families can see less of their disposable income go to utility bills while simultaneously using less energy.  The Bails Townhome Community will incorporate these and many additional recycling practices and building techniques to improve indoor air quality.

Located in a walkable neighborhood that is within ½ mile of existing light rail and bus lines, Bails Townhome Community homeowners will have the opportunity to reduce vehicle emissions and keep transportation costs low.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for this historic Habitat for Humanity project.  To learn more about getting involved in the IT build, or any other homes within the community, please contact Amy Kusek (amy@habitatmetrodenver.org).
