Many IT organizations are looking at cloud services as a way to leverage the agility, elasticity and flexibility associated with application delivery. While it’s one thing to research the benefits of cloud computing, it’s much harder to put into practice. Where do you start when it comes to transferring enterprise systems from an onsite data center to the cloud? How do you maintain mission critical application availability during a complex hybrid cloud migration? And what if something goes wrong?
These were some of the challenges faced by Prologis, a leading owner, operator and developer of industrial real estate that works with clients throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. After a merger in 2011, Prologis was left with seven data centers. To mitigate risk, and ensure a successful migration to the new environment, the company sought the help of experts to optimize its current environment and assist with the go forward cloud strategy.
GTRI approached the challenge as a strategic partner and conducted a comprehensive, in-depth assessment that resulted in many value-add actionable items. Working closely with the Prologis team, GTRI identified dependencies and prioritized to accomplish the items, including running the Request for Proposal (RFP) process to assist Prologis with finding the best fit cloud hosting partner, and migrating the company’s IT systems without disruption.
Patrick Klein, Deputy Chief Information Officer for Prologis, said of the project: “GTRI quickly won the respect of our internal teams. It’s sometimes difficult when you bring in an external party, but GTRI was a true partner and that made the whole undertaking so much easier.”
The results of our coordinated efforts with Prologis are documented in this case study. I encourage you to read it and let us know if we may assist your organization with similar challenges.
